This Daily Bread- Wednesday, Jan 8, 2020

We all know the words. Many of us say them regularly but, as with many things we know so well they become routine. We ask the Father, “Give us this day, our daily bread” and proceed to walk away unexpectant, nor do we fully grasp the great abundance of what we just requested. This ‘daily bread’ is so much more than asking the Father in Heaven to meet our needs, it is a request to help us change our ways of thinking, help us perceive people and situations through His mindset, help us see ourselves in Christ, and help us see Christ in us.

To them, God wanted to make known how great among the Gentiles is the glorious richness of this secret. And the secret is this: the Messiah is united with you people! In that rests your hope of glory! Colossians 1:27 CJB

To see Jesus in us, and our lives in service to Him, we begin to understand just how this daily bread is so powerful in our lives. When we acknowledge our Savior in us daily we begin to see purpose beyond going to work, being nice to our spouse, and sitting in church on Sunday. We see ourselves as bearers of the Kingdom of God. Our lives can be an example of God’s goodness, and we can share His goodness with others. Daily bread meets all manner of needs, and the world around us is in desperate need of them all. Peace, joy, renewed minds, forgiveness are all a product of partaking daily of this bread. We all know people who need Jesus, and many who know Him but don’t have peace, joy, or love.

So how do we acknowledge Jesus in us daily and help share His joy and peace with others? We look to the Word and see the Israelites as a natural example of spiritual truth. Daily they were told to go gather the bread and it would sustain them for a day, but God also told them not to gather too much as they would have to gather this bread daily. Whatever it is that sustains you is what you should gather. I often like to focus on just 1 verse each day. I read it, write it down, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal more about it to me throughout the day. This practice keeps my focus on Jesus and helps me to renew my mind to the truth of who I am in Christ and what He has done for me. Over time practicing this gathering of daily bread you will find plenty of opportunities to share your verse with others so that they too can find joy and peace through Jesus, and ultimately grow and be a bearer of truth for the Kingdom.

Activation Prayer- Jesus help me diligently seek you every day in the Word. Let my mind be renewed to who I am in You, and the work You do in me. Holy Spirit lead me to people who I can share this word with daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
